MAT GALINA _ WINDING DOWN AFTER WINTER

OP : Mat Galina buddy what’s up! Where you at mate?

MAT : I’m doing well thanks, it has been an interesting end to an otherwise unreal season.

OP : How was the Australian winter by snow standards this year?

MAT : The season was epic! I realize it was an average season by the old standards but it was my best in 8 winters here. It felt like I never stopped shoveling snow but it all was the greater good.

OP : So you hit up a few urban features .. scare yourself much?

MAT : Yeah, Falls has such a great village. Everyone who has ever visited knows this and it’s not even difficult to find spots. Surprisingly, each year we find new spots to add to the village checklist, this year we had enough snow for a few of the gnarlier spots. Frankly, I get the shakes just thinking about one of the spots….lucky to just walk away, even better with a shot in the bank.

OP : Yeah sweet so you got your first double @ Stylewars. Been trying a few before that?

MAT : I guess an old dog can learn new tricks. The stars aligned and I rode away from one at Stylewars. I’ve tried them on three or so pow jumps in the past and always had trouble with the landing being too flat. I had to gather the courage to do it on a park jump but the jumps were perfect, all my friends were there cheering me on and the pros were putting on a doubles clinic so would have been disappointed if I didn’t at least try to get involved.

OP : How was filming over in Canada? You went to Mt. baker? Sledded in Nelson?

MAT : I don’t think I need to try and describe how awesome riding in Canada is, there is just so much opportunity. Between the number of resorts, the limitless backcountry and more handrails than you could ever dream of hitting with a little effort you can have it all. I bought a sled in March and plan to get off the grid, step it up a couple levels and really challenge myself. Baker was epic. I made four trips, opening day was the deepest snow ever, raced in the banked slalom, hit the road gap and chilled with Kiwis Nic Brown and RMB for a couple days. I will never get tired of that place it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!

OP : and so plans for this winter coming? What we gonna get up to dawg!

MAT : Plans for the this winter is to learn to ride my snowmobile so I can get in and out spots without relying on a trail being pre-set. I still have far too many tricks to learn and I want to continue being a gypsy and just follow the snow. Sounds like Whistler in the spring is going to be fun, so that will be on the to-do list as well. So many options and so little time!

OP : Shout outs and thanks below ..

MAT : First up thanks to you for freezing your butt off while waiting for me to land something. Brad and Jaye at 3CS and Klump from Rythym & Endeavor, Jez at Radical, Dan at 32 Boots, Zoe at Dragon, Matt at Last Chance Apparel. Thanks everyone for your unwavering support through the years. Last but certainly not least to all my friends who make every adventure memorable.

Mat had the closing section to the first team vid that focused on 3CS A-Team shreds from around the globe.
